CHISALA BWALYA SPEAKS AT THE CIVIL SOCIETY LAW IN AFRICA WORKSHOP IN PRETORIA

The centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, in collaboration with the International Center for
Not-for-Profit Law, hosted a one week intensive workshop on Civil Society Law in Africa from 1st to 5th
August, 2022.
The purpose of the workshop was to strengthen capacity with respect to the legal and regulatory
principles affecting civil society and to provide opportunities for interaction among legal professionals,
civil society leaders, students, government officials and legislators across the region with a view
to facilitating the exchange of ideas and experiences.
In attendance and honored to contribute to the cardinal discussions was, Chisala Bwalya among others.
Chisala spoke about the NGO act of 2009 and the public order act.
The workshop also aimed to raise awareness of the challenges civil society faces and efforts to respond
to those threats because despite the right to form civil society organisations and peaceful assembly, civil
society groups and activists continue to face threats and fall victim to oppression every day.
