ICU at the 94th Agriculture and Commercial
By Mukuka Siame
Information and Communications University students had the chance to be among the exhibitors at the just ended 94th Agriculture and Commercial Show. The theme for this year was Innovation Through Technology- Technology Transforms Business.
The brilliance showcased by the exhibitors included, the ICU Cyber App, an application developed by Tadashi Lakhi. The application shines as a brilliant technology contributing to curb and reduce the level of unfound stolen/missing phones as well as serve as a detector for spam messages. Imagine not having to stress much after losing your phone because just a few clicks on the Cyber App can help track and locate your phone.
Also in sight was Eng.Tutu Zulu, a former student who noticed from the time he was a child, when people want to switch appliances on and off, they would have to get up from wherever they are and press on the socket. This had his head shook and later prompted him to develop an application that allows the user to switch appliances on and off unlike the traditional method of pressing the socket. For the application to work, data bundles are required. Despite the distance, the application works perfectly.
It is noticeable that human activities are fundamentally changing the world. These activities are contributing to climate change which makes it difficult for plants to grow. It is therefore why, Sayowa Mubita and Sunday Chanda, students studying Agriculture, due to their passion for Agriculture, have developed sustainable ways to go about it despite the weather.
To ensure that animals have food through out the year, a farmer can grow hydroponic fodder.
They also came up with a technique called Nitrogen Film Technique that enables people to grow crops and establish a garden even when an individual does not have enough space. The dual are also producing organic fertilizer using Earthworms.
The exhibitions attracted so many show goers who seemed intrigued by the developments and could not wait to fire those burning questions.
